Antique and Vintage Vehicles
For anyone classic car owners who live in more dramatic climates, much like the North East in contrast to South Florida, it’s time to take their cars to sleep for that winter. We’ve put together some steps that will help you do it right.
First, top off your levels. Fill your vehicle's gas tank and add a fuel preservative. The entire tank keeps out moisture along with the preservative keeps the gas from deteriorating. Take one last drive to flow the preservative. Be sure your antifreeze is fresh and topped off. Most of all to avoid any nasty sludge in the year, change the oil.
Additionally you need to take preventative measures. Give your automobile a good wash and wax to shield the paint. Its also wise to protect the chrome with wax or paint sealant. Don’t forget to over-inflate the tires to prevent flat spotting, or jack up the car to take pressure off of the tires.
Let’s not forget the car battery. It would be a good idea to put an electric battery manager on your car and to prevent rodents nesting inside engine compartment, get one of these rodent repellent underneath the hood. Just remember to eliminate it before starting up.
Moisture is an issue so deposit a few moisture pads around the upholstery to absorb moisture which will help prevent mildew. Also, cover the automobile with a breathable car cover to stop corrosion and rust.
Finally, re-circulate your oil. When a car sits, oil settles in the pan, leaving the engine without lubrication. Disconnect the coil wire and crank the engine over more than once. Reconnect the coil wire and you will be good to go.
